Many new career doors have opened, not just in traditional areas like national parks and conservation areas but also in environmental education, conservation research and eco-tourism. This programme offers a broad platform for a career in any of these areas and has been designed in consultation with the conservation industry. It combines theory with practical training in the form of compulsory practical sessions, as well as hands-on workplace exposure (called experiential learning) in the nature conservation environment. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="csProgramHeading" style="text-align: justify;">Career Opportunities</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><ul style="padding-left: 48px;"><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Conservation research technician </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Ecologist </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Environmental education officer </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Nature conservationist </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Conservation research technician </div></li><div style="text-align: justify;">Social ecologist </div></ul><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Course Duration</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">3 years </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="csProgramHeading" style="text-align: justify;">Admission Requirements</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">NSC with three 20 credit subject passed at level 3 and Agricultural Science or Geog or Life Sci or Physical Science 3. This has fuelled demand for animal health experts who can help producers comply with laws on preventing and controlling animal disease, implement sound animal health strategies and access veterinary technical services when they need it. Like all Unisa’s animal health programmes, this diploma has the stamp of approval of the Veterinary Council. It gives students a solid grounding in all aspects of animal diseases and health, including anatomy and physiology, nutrition, pharmacology and toxicology and animal health law.<br /><a name='more'></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The programme is highly regarded in the agricultural sector as it combines theory and practice of animal health. For the practical side, students must spend at least six months doing experiential learning through an approved public or private veterinarian or technician. Students also have to attend five compulsory practicals, which are presented in collaboration with accredited animal health bodies. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="csProgramHeading" style="text-align: justify;">Career Opportunities</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><ul style="padding-left: 48px;"><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Animal health technician </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Feedlot manager </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Meat inspector </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Pharmaceutical representative </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Stock farm manager </div></li></ul><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="csProgramHeading" style="text-align: justify;">Duration</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">3 years </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="csProgramHeading" style="text-align: justify;">Admission Requirements</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">NSC Diploma with English and Mathematics passed at level 4 and two 20 credit subjects passed at level 3or Senior Certificate with English and Mathematics 'E' HG/'D' SG (Biology & Physical Science recommended)</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6484495458749068472.post-19492135384567192352010-11-18T00:15:00.000-08:002011-07-30T04:45:31.431-07:00Unisa Courses - National Diploma (Agricultural Management) (NDAGR)<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="fullpost"><a href="http://brochure.unisa.ac.za/brochure/data/pdf/NDAGR.pdf" target="_blank"><span style="color: #cc6600;">Link to full calendar information (PDF)</span></a><br /></span></div><div class="csProgramHeading" style="text-align: justify;">Description</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Government has earmarked agricultural skills development as a national education priority because of the critical shortage of high-level specialists in the public sector and private farming enterprises. There is an especially great need for experts able to use environmentally-friendly methods to promote viable, profitable and sustainable food production. Developing these skills is the purpose of this diploma, which covers agricultural management, plant and animal production, soil and pasture science, production techniques, agricultural law and computer technologies used in agriculture. It ensures that students gain hands-on experience by doing experiential learning at an accredited farming enterprise during their studies. Students are also expected to attend at least two compulsory practical courses in the form of one beginner’s session and one advanced session. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="csProgramHeading" style="text-align: justify;">Career Opportunities</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><ul style="padding-left: 48px;"><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Agricultural development officer </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Agricultural extension officer </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Agricultural learning officer </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Agricultural marketing manager </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Agricultural marketing officer </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Agricultural research assistant </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Agricultural training facilitator </div></li><li><div style="text-align: justify;">Farm manager </div></li></ul><div class="csProgramHeading" style="text-align: justify;">Course Duration</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">3 years </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="csProgramHeading" style="text-align: justify;">Course Admission Requirements</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">NSC with four 20 credit subjects passed at level 3 or or Senior Certificate</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6484495458749068472.post-42276619720699285632010-11-17T02:44:00.000-08:002011-07-30T04:45:31.431-07:00Unisa Courses - Bachelor of Arts with specialisation in Environmental Management<span class="fullpost"> <strong>Code:</strong> <br />02038 - ENN <br /><strong>Admission:</strong> <br />NSC with an achievement rating of 4 in four 20-credit subjects, OR matriculation exemption <br /><strong>Duration:</strong> <br />3 years <br /><!--div class='forwardButton'><a href='../../Section_6/Main_Landing.html' target='mainFrame'><img src='../../../images/Layout/forward.png' border='0'></a></div--></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6484495458749068472.post-56347347111715234062010-11-17T02:43:00.000-08:002011-07-30T04:45:31.431-07:00Unisa Courses - Baccalaureus Technologiae (Animal Health)<span class="fullpost"> <a href="http://www.unisa.ac.za/contents/myChoice/courseinfo/indexCAES.html">Code: BTANM </a><br /><strong>Admission:</strong> <br />3 year National Diploma or equivalent (M+3) in the same or similar field. <br /><strong>Duration:</strong> <br />1 year <br /><!--div class='forwardButton'><a href='../../Section_6/Main_Landing.html' target='mainFrame'><img src='../../../images/Layout/forward.png' border='0'></a></div--></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6484495458749068472.post-50509425384417909942010-11-17T02:41:00.000-08:002011-07-30T04:45:31.431-07:00Unisa Courses - National Diploma (Animal Health)<span class="fullpost"> <a href="http://www.unisa.ac.za/contents/myChoice/courseinfo/indexCAES.html">Code: NDANM </a><br /><strong>Admission:</strong> <br />A National Senior Certificate with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40 - 49%) or better in at least four recognized NSC 20-credit subjects.
